Singapore

October 5, 2007

After leaving Melbourne I had a 2 day stopover in Singapore.
It was only 2 days because when I first changed my flight back in June I didn’t know how well everything works out with uni so I booked only a 2 day stop over in order to arrive back home not too late.

I stayed the 2 days at Sarah’s place. There’s a funny story about Sarah:
I haven’t really met her before. I’ve just seen her once or twice at a party a few years ago or something. Anyway, she read my blog for a long time and emailed me one day. From that time onwards we had mail contact and I ended up being invited to her parent’s house in Singapore (they life there) for my stopover. Just awesome! 🙂

Of course everything went wrong and I arrived one day too early. I told her that I will arrive on the 10th at night but actually arrived in the morning (1 am). So I took a cab to her place and ended up waking her Mum in the middle of the night because Sarah would arrive the next day.
Disaster like usual but her mum is really nice so at least for me it was no problem…. 😉

The next morning I visited a buddis temple in the western part of Singapore. It’s just huge and I was probably the only non-aisan guy in a radius of 5 km. (If you consider that the area of Singapore is just 30×20 km it sounds more impressive 😀 )

It was “month of the ghost”. Everywhere in Singapore they built up small fires with fruits, food and presents for the ghosts.

Singapore
You can also buy paper presents for your dead family members or friends. If you dont like them and dont want them to have a good “life” as dead people you can give them for example a Laptop with Windows Vista 😉

Paper-beer-cans

After that I drove back to the city and walked around the shopping malls and little india.

Singapore
Lucky Plaza, one of the cheaper shopping centers. You can almost buy everything in there. Expecially Mobilephones, cameras and necklesses… 😉

On the way to little India

Singapore
I think you cant really compare it with a “real” indian city but still, it looks like you’re in Dehli or somewhere in India.

Singapore
Indian lifestyle 🙂 Millions of customers

Singapore
And again fires for the dead people

Singapore
A market in one of the small lanes. You could buy everything – used – there. Umbrellas, Watches, Computers (or at least parts of it), food, pictures, books, armwrests, ….

They had two tables full of porn dvds. 😀

The mediteranian view over the river with all its cafes and bars. And thats only 3 km away from little India or Chinatown.
You have so many different cultures, buildings, people, colors, streets within the small distance of a few km. Just great 🙂
But I have to say, two days are enough to see Singapore 🙂 MAybe not all of it but the best things and if you have a great guide like I hade its not a problem at all…

I left at night to Dubai and from there to Frankfurt… back hoooome 🙂
